In XtenWIN, when defining Devices, the "Clear" button now not only clears all of the currently selected modules, but it also clears the description field.

In XtenWIN, added Tooltips text to the Mode and Time buttons for clarity.

XtenSRVR was improperly handling events stored in the CP290 with a Mode=Security. 

Added a progress bar to show user that XtenWIN is still working during long processes (i.e., retrieve devices from controller).

XtenWIN: significantly increased the OLE timeout values during the Retrieve Events and Transmit Events processes.

Removed the OLE timeout properties from the XtenSRVR.Application.Information object.  

Version 7.0 Beta c (01/01/98)

The initial version of the XtenWIN client program has been completed.

Added the following methods to the XtenSRVR.X10CP290.Events object: InsertEventBefore, InsertEventAfter, RemoveEvent, UpdateEvent.

Add the following property to the XtenSRVR.Application object: OnTop

Will no longer run two copies of XtenSRVR. If a second copy is started, it detects the first, informs it to display the dialog box, and then the second copy exits.

In XtenOPTN.exe, replaced spin buttons with slider control for setting frequency of dusk/dawn offset adjustments. This was done to improve the user interface and eliminate the dependency upon SPIN32.OCX.

The XtenSRVR Transmission window now defaults to a reasonable initial size (and centered on the screen).

Setup was failing if the target machine did not have Office97, Internet Explorer, VB5, FrontPage97, or other newer MS program installed. This was caused by incompatibilities between versions of olepro32.dll. This has been resolved by changing the distributed olepro32.dll to an earlier version. If the target machine has a newer version properly installed, it will not be overwritten and all will be correct.

The XtenSRVR dialog box was not properly shutting down the ole server if it was closed via the control box instead of the "Exit XtenSRVR" button. 

Removed the control box from the dialog box.

The XtenWIN toolbar buttons have been changed to work such that clicking one closes any previously selected dialog. In addition, while XtenWIN is waiting for CP290 transmissions to complete (via XtenSRVR), the toolbar and menu bar are hidden.

Two additional Methods have been added.  X10Event.ToggleDay toggles the specified day on/off. X10Event.Device.ToggleModule toggles the specified Module on/off.

The XtenSRVR dialog box, the Modify Devices, the Modules frame have been modified to toggle a Module on/off when it is clicked instead of just adding the Module to the Device.

Changed this file from changes.doc to changes.wri.  

Version 7.0 Beta b (1/19/97)

Guilt Screen is now displayed for 5 seconds (up from 2 seconds).

The Installation Program (SrvSetup.exe) now displays the HELP file for XtenSRVR before it completes.

When issuing X10 commands from the XtenSRVR dialog box: once a device has been selected and the commands or levels have been displayed, the list of devices can be reshown for reselection by moving the mouse cursor over to the currently displayed selected device.

Enlarged the size of the Application/Information form for Samples.exe, and made the form fixed size.

HELP button on XtenSRVR Dialog Box now displays HELP Topics list properly. 

By using WIN32 API directly, have eliminated the dependency on COMDLG32.OCX.

Expanded HELP information on using the Object Browser to display XtenSRVR object definitions to include description of how to make sure that there is a reference to XtenSRVR included in the project.

The Transmission Window is now re-sizable, and the window location, size, visible, and OnTop attributes are all saved between XtenSRVR sessions.

Have added the VERY INCOMPLETE first beta release of the XtenWIN client program. There is no HELP information yet, and no support yet for EVENTS. I would appreciate comments from beta testers concerning the general look and feel of the new interface. Note: you select a single function (devices, events, clock, immediate commands) by clicking on a toolbar icon. You cannot select another until you've closed the current dialog; either via its close button on by clicking once again on its toolbar icon.

Corrected minor problem with HELP file. Some hot spots referenced incorrect topics.

Enabled the Transmission Display Window, so that the display can be scrolled forward and backwards.

Moved the ABOUT and REGISTRATION INFORMATION Menu Items from the FILE menu to the HELP menu to comply with newer conventions.

Bug fix: When transmitting 48 or more EVENTs to the CP-290 controller, XtenWIN was computing the controller memory address incorrectly. This would cause EVENTs to be stored improperly, and in many cases, some EVENTs would not be stored into the controller memory. 

Version 4.0

Added code to select the entire description field in the Update Devices Dialog Box.

The installation program now asks if the PROGRAM MANAGER Group should be created.

Code added to handle updating of existing Program Manager Group during installation.

Revised the way the installation program invokes the X10OPTS.EXE program. SETUP.EXE now waits for X10OPTS to complete, before it completes. The install window is also left open until installation is fully competed.

XtenWIN HELP is invoked as the last action performed by the install program.

HELP information has been completed.  

Version 4.0 Beta 06

Added a CLEAR button for the DEVICE Description field on the EDIT DEVICE window.

When placing a DEVICE Description into the EDIT DEVICE window, trailing blanks are now trimmed from the string, allowing simpler editing of existing descriptions.

Version 4.0 Beta 05

Added an entirely new program, XTENDEVS.EXE, that accepts a DEVICE file (.d10) as a parameter, and then runs in the background. When the icon is double-clicked, a listbox of DEVICES is displayed. Clicking on an entry in the DEVICE list will open up a drop-down menu. This menu allows you to specify ON, OFF, or DIM. Example program invocation: XTENDEVS.EXE /Ddevices.d10 /NOUPDATE

A bug was introduced by 4.0 Beta 01a, resulting in sunrise and sunset offset EVENT times not recognizing the daylight saving time switch properly. This has been corrected.

The CF nag screen had some text that would obtain focus via TAB, allowing user to modify text. This has been fixed.

Added Compu-Serve ID to the ABOUT Box.

Reworked logic to Enable/Disable the FILE-SAVE-DEVICES Menu Command.

Only 23 characters of the DEVICE Description was being saved, instead of 25.

Add a REGISTRATION INFORMATION Menu Item to XTENWIN.EXE, and added dialog boxes to the SETUP1.EXE program to explain registration requirements.

Version 4.0 Beta 03b

The SET CLOCK dialog box still had the "NO-DROP" mouse pointer; this has been corrected.

The DAY buttons in the EDIT EVENTs dialog box had 'mysteriously' had their index numbers changed around, resulting in incorrect days being assigned to EVENTs.

Two new commands have been added to the OPTIONS menu command, allowing the user to set the fonts to be used in the EVENTs and DEVICEs display windows.

The DEVICEs window now displays the devices in sorted order.

When the DEVICE list is updated (FILE NEW/OPEN, or EDIT DEVICEs), the EVENTs list is now refreshed to reflect the changed DEVICE definitions.

The EVENTs EXECUTE Menu Command has been renamed to IMMEDIATE EVENTs.

The logic used to enable/disable the FILE EVENTS SAVE Menu Item has been reworked.

X10UPDTE.EXE was failing with INVALID FUNCTION CALL if the PC's Date Format was not MM/DD/YY (International settings in DESKTOP ).

The SETUP1 (installation) program now installs into the "XtenWIN" Program Group instead of the "XtenWIN Programs" Program Group.  

Version 4.0 Beta 03a

During installation, if Windows 3.1 Program Manager STARTUP Group was created, any existing programs in the STARTUP Group were deleted. This has been fixed, but it is possible that a duplicate item could be added to the group.

Added ON ERROR GOTO logic into X10UPDTE.EXE and XTENCMDS.EXE.

The EVENTs EXECUTE COMMANDS Menu Command was displaying the "No-Drop" mouse pointer erroneously. This has been fixed.

Several of the dialog boxes in XTENWIN.EXE were using the Windows default background color. If the user changed these (via Control Panel), some text display appeared strange. This has been corrected. 

Version 4.0 Beta 02c

During installation, if the XtenWIN Program Manager Group already exists, all of its items are deleted before creating new Program Manager items. Before, installation was creating duplicate icons.

Added HELP Topics.

Eliminated the Windows Directory Specification from the XtenWIN Options Program. This parameter is set during installation, and should not be changed. If the XtenWIN programs are to be moved to a different directory, the install program should be rerun (or edit XTENWIN.INI).

The Setup Program (X10SETUP.EXE or SETUP1.EXE) now adds the file extensions .E10 and .D10 to the WIN.INI file, so that the appropriate XtenWIN programs are now started when files with these extensions are double-clicked from the File Manager. A file with the .D10 extension will start up the EVENTs Editor (XtenWIN.EXE) with the specified Device File loaded upon startup. A file with the .E10 extension will start up the background X10 Command processor in batch mode, and will execute the commands in the specified EVENTs file.

The background X10 Command Processor (XtenCMDS) has been changed to display the command being executed in the icon title when executing in batch mode. 

Version 4.0 Beta 02a

Added HELP Topics.

X10SETUP.EXE now will create STARTUP icons (Windows 3.1 only) for: XTENCMDS only, X10UPDTE only, or XTENCMDS and X10UPDTE.

The appearance of several of the Icons have been changed.

Based upon popular demand, the 'no drop' icon has been replaced with the system default for all windows.

The Edit-Devices processing contained an error. When a device was selected in the Device List, the description that was being placed into the Edit Devices Dialog was being truncated by two characters. This was only apparent when the description was greater than 23 characters. This has been corrected.

A new convenience feature has been added. When the Menu Bar is enabled (no commands in progress), double-clicking on an EVENT will automatically bring up the Edit-Event dialog. Double-clicking on a Device will automatically bring up the Edit-Devices dialog. 

Version 4.0 Beta 01c

X10OPTS.EXE was incorrectly initializing the XtenWIN directory display. It now correctly displays the directory that was either set during installation (X10SETUP.EXE via SETUP.EXE) or by the previous execution of X10OPTS.EXE.

Cleaned Visual Basic JUNK from all .EXE modules.

SETUP1.EXE (X10SETUP.EXE) now exits properly - it was hanging around in the background, hidden after execution.

The Icons created for Program Manager are now created with more meaningful descriptions.

X10OPTS has been rewritten to contain a Menu Bar to be used to select the individual option that you want to change. During install, however, all options are automatically selected for you. The X10OPTS window has been rearranged based upon feedback from beta testers.

Additional HELP topics have been included.

An Installation program (SETUP.EXE) is now supplied with XtenWIN. To install XtenWIN, place all of the distribution files into a single directory (TEMP= directory will do) and then run SETUP.EXE from this directory.

XTENWIN.EXE now prompts the user for Daylight Savings information upon initial startup.

Additional HELP topics have been included.

XTENWIN.EXE now checks to make sure that the program file X10OPTS.EXE exists in the directory that is currently defined as the XtenWIN directory before trying to shell to X10OPTS. If not found, an error message is displayed and the function is terminated.

HELP buttons have been added to each of the dialog boxes displayed by X10OPTS.EXE.

In X10OPTS.EXE, after the XtenWIN Directory is specified and the OK button is clicked, the specified directory is checked to see if it contains LATLONG.DAT. If not, the wrong directory has probably been specified, and the user is now prompted to see if they would like to re-specify the directory.

This is a complete rewrite of the X10WIN program, using a significantly different approach to the interface with the user of the program. No attempt is made here to define all of the changes made since prior versions. ===================================================================

Wherever the EVENTS are displayed in a list (EVENT UPDATE, EVENT TRANSMIT, and EVENT PRINT), the first two columns have been swapped so that the DEVICE is now displayed first before the FUNCTION (on, off, dim).

Several people had reported UAEs when exiting Windows while XtenWIN was still running. The problem appears to be either with Windows or MS Visual Basic. MS is researching the problem. In the mean time, the problem has been circumvented in this release. Please let me know if you experience this problem, as it is not clearly understood what exactly is happening (by either MicroSoft or me).

The Dialog Box used for updating the Controller day and time contains a clock icon. The results of clicking on this icon has been changed to more appropriately reflect the type of clock depicted in the icon (this is a result of a request from a registered user).

Increased the maximum number of EVENTS (from 128 to 200) and DEVICES (50 to 256).

X10UPDTE.EXE prompts you if you attempt to close it (either via control box or via Windows shutdown) prior to it completing. Now, the warning is only issued if the attempt to close comes after X10UPDTE has begun to transmit the updated EVENTS to the controller. This way, it is much more convenient to stop X10UPDTE during its initial startup if you decide that you do not want to update the EVENTS.

Some earlier Beta versions of 4.0 contained a bug that caused XtenWIN to not release the COM Port when it completed. This has been fixed.  

Version 4.0B4

The distribution archive XTENWNB4.ZIP did not contain the library CTLHWND.DLL. This library has been added, and the installation instructions have been updated to reference this same library.

The old X10WIN.EXE file has been deleted from XTENWNB4.ZIP.

The Main Menu Commands SETUP and DEVICES did not have sub-menu lines, and hence violated CUA conventions. This has been rectified.

Added a FILE PRINT DEVICES Menu Command to print a list of the DEVICES definition to the printer.

The Status Window displayed by X10UPDTE can be moved with the mouse to any screen location, and that location will now be remembered across multiple executions.

Restricted the entry fields in all windows to the proper length, most notably, the Description field for DEVICE definition is now restricted to 25 characters.

Revised the editing of all TIME fields to (hopefully) be more convenient for the user.

Added a CANCEL Button to the Setup Dialog Box.

This is a Beta Test release of Version 4.0. The program has been renamed to XtenWIN, with significant enhancements.

Support has been added for multiple DEVICE files. The default DEVICE file that is opened during XtenWIN startup is now named AUTOOPEN.D10. The extension .D10 is used for all DEVICE files, and the AutoOpen file must reside in the XtenWIN directory.

All File related MENU Commands have been moved to the FILE Menu.

The logo displayed in the ABOUT Box, and elsewhere has been revised.

The Devices Update Dialog Box has been modified to add Alt-key combinations for all dialog box elements, and the Mouse Pointer Icon has been modified to change based upon the position within the Dialog Box.

The DAY Buttons within the Devices Dialog Box have been changed to use a three-dimensional Button Control to be more readable. The file 3DLABEL.VBX must be available via your DOS Path.

XtenWIN no longer displays the ABOUT Box during startup, in order to speed up the initial load time. The FILE ABOUT Menu Command can still be used to display the Program Information Dialog Box.

Several GMT Offsets have been updated in the LATLONG.DAT file.

The XtenWIN Title Bar will now display the Registered User.

The registration dialog box now asks the user to send information about where they obtained XtenWIN.

The Setup Dialog Box now uses Drive and Directory Controls to specify the X10 Directory.

The FILE_EXIT Menu Command no longer lists sub-menus of YES and NO, but exits immediately.

A new menu command, SETUP, has been added that allows changing of setup options stored in X10WIN.INI (Comm Port and X10 Directory).

The Xmit/Receive Display window has been converted from a special text window written using VBCOMM routines, to a regular VB text window with no add-on library routines required for display.

After a 'successful' OPEN of the COM Port, the status of the modem interface is checked to try and determine if the port is actually attached to the X10 controller (as opposed to, say, a modem). If the Modem Status byte was not X'00', the only options were to ABORT or to RETRY. This version adds the option to IGNORE. The title bar of the Open Error dialog box now displays the number of the Com Port. 

Version 1.2  

The SETUP dialog box has been improved. The Comm Port is now set using a horizontal scroll bar, and the X10 Directory currently specified is displayed in a label field.

Changed the color scheme for the Events Update and Devices Update dialog boxes to make more readable for the largest number of display types (black and white).

Eliminated references to add-on product VBCOMM, converting all serial port functions to direct calls to Windows API Functions. VBCOMM.VBX is no longer required (although VBRUN100.DLL still is).

Added WINDOW Menu functions to save the current locations and sizes of the Menu window and the Display window. The location and size of the windows can also be set back to the original defaults. 

Version 1.3

Revised Icon used when XtenWIN is minimized.

Added "Charity Ware" Form. The registration code is not yet included in this version, but will be added soon. A registration process will be included to eliminate the CF Charity Ware Display Form in Version 2.0.

Added code to the EVENT Upload and Download routines to add four bytes to each event stored in the X10 Controller. These four bytes will be used for information needed to handle EVENTS that are offsets from SUNUP and SUNDOWN.

Added Meter Control to the Menu Form to show progress made during transmit and receive functions. This is particularly helpful during long EVENT upload and downloads. The file METER100.VBX is now required, and must be in the DOS Path.

The transmit and receive data display routines have been modified to not format and place display to the display form when the user has closed the display window. This means that you can no longer open the window and see the data that had been transmitted and received while the window was closed, but the serial communications processes are now speeded up considerably when the display window is closed (normal operation).  

Version 1.4  

The Warning screen that is displayed before uploading EVENTS to the Controller ("These EVENTS will Completely Replace the Contents of the Controller") now removes each EVENT from the Warning Screen as they are uploaded to the Controller.

The EVENTS Update Screen has been modified to include support for SunUp and SunDown EVENT processing.

The Setup Menu Command now includes capability for entering the SunUp and SunDown times.

EVENT Upload and Download processing now stores and retrieves offset info when the EVENT is defined as an offset from SunUp or SunDown.

The ABOUT Dialog Box is now displayed during startup initialization, and displays the name of the person the program is registered to.

Colors in the Controller Time Set Dialog Box have been changed to be easier to see on all monitors.

Added Control Box to the Menu Window so that program can be terminated by double-clicking the Control Box, as an alternative to using the FILE EXIT Menu Command.

The Time Text Box on the Controller Time Set Dialog Box, and the Day Buttons are now initialized to the current Controller Time and Day.

The Events Load and Events Download Menu Commands now automatically invoke the Events Update Command, so that when you load EVENTS from the controller or a file, they are immediately displayed in the dialog box for verification and/or modification.  

Version 2.2

The Default has been changed to NOT display the Xmit/Rcv Window, because of the poor performance when the Xmit/Rcv Window is open. Only Open the window when curious about X10 Data Stream, or as an aid in debugging problems.

Dialog boxes have been provided for the EVENT LOAD and EVENT SAVE Menu Commands to specify the name of the files. The default file extension is .E10, and the default directory is the X10 directory specified in the SETUP Menu Command.

Changed the background color of the Event Upload Warning Window.  

Version 2.3

Added the FILE PRINT EVENTS and FILE PRINTER SETUP Menu Commands to allow the printing of EVENT definitions. The FILE PRINTER SETUP Menu Command invokes your printer's Windows Device Driver Setup Routine. A new file, PSETUP.DLL, must be available along the DOS path. 

Version 2.4

Added LATLONG.DAT to .ZIP file. This file contains the latitude, longitude, and Greenwich Mean Time Offset (Time Zone) for major cities.

Added latitude and longitude processing to the SETUP Menu Command and dialog box.

Now the SETUP Menu Command initializes the X10 Directory to either the currently defined directory, or C:\ if no X10 Directory had been defined previously.

Added controls for specifying STANDARD or DAYLIGHT SAVINGS time to the X10 Set Clock dialog box.

Modified the EVENT UPDATE and EVENT UPLOAD Menu Commands to automatically compute the SunUP and SunDown times from the Latitude, Longitude, the GMT Offset, and the Daylight Savings Indicator, all stored in X10WIN.INI; and the computer date. Once the Setup parameters and the Daylight Savings indicators are stored, all EVENTS stored in the X10 Controller that are offsets from SunUp or SunDown can be automatically updated by just retrieving from and then re-transmitting the EVENTS to the X10 Controller.

Modified the SETUP dialog box processing to remove the latitude and longitude controls from the dialog box during the initial SETUP processing during program installation.

Added controls to the SETUP dialog box for specifying the EVENT automatic update frequency for use with program X10UPDTE.EXE.

A second executable program, X10UPDTE.EXE, is now distributed with XtenWIN to be used to automatically update EVENTS that are resident in the X10 Controller that have been specified as offsets from sunrise and sunset. The X10UPDTE.EXE program should be executed each time Windows is started by specifying it as part of the RUN command in WIN.INI, for example: RUN=C:\X10UPDTE.EXEX10UPDTE always runs as an icon, and first checks to see if it should update the X10 Controller EVENTS by checking the AUTOMATIC UPDATE FREQUENCY specified during SETUP processing against the current date and the last time the EVENTS were updated. Setting the AUTOMATIC UPDATE FREQUENCY to 7 should be sufficient to keep the sunrise and sunset times fairly current. If a frequency of 0 is used, then the EVENTS will be updated every time X10UPDTE is run.

The Controller EVENTS are updated by first retrieving them from the Controller, then adjusting all times that are sunrise/sunset offsets, and then re-transmitting the EVENTS to the Controller. The icon caption indicates X10UPDTE's progress.

The Charity-Ware Window is no longer displayed when exiting the program.

The Xmit/Rcv Window is now unloaded when it is closed to reduce memory requirements.

A separate utility, X10SMALL.EXE, is now included that can be run prior to each execution of XtenWIN.EXE to reduce the memory requirements of XtenWIN. Several of the initilialization routines that require significant memory will be bypassed (and not loaded into memory) if they are performed first by executing X10SMALL.EXE. If you do not experience memory problems running XtenWIN.EXE, then X10SMALL.EXE is not needed.  

Version 2.7

The Menu Command for setting the X10 Controller Clock is no longer used to display the Controller time. A new CLOCK Menu Command has been added to eliminate confusion in finding the Controller Clock Commands.

The size and load times of both XtenWIN.EXE and X10SMALL.EXE have been reduced significantly, as well as their memory requirements. Most configurations should NOT need X10SMALL.EXE.The foreground color has been corrected to absolute BLACK (it was appearing black on my machine, but was not really black, and caused problems for others) for some controls on the EVENTS UPDATE Window and the Warning Window displayed as EVENTS are transmitted to the Controller.

DEVICES are now displayed as A-01 if only a single MODULE is included in the DEVICE definition, and displayed as A-C000 if more than one MODULE are defined.

The DEVICES UPDATE DEVICES Menu Command now sorts the list of DEVICES in order by the HOUSE Code and then the MODULE Codes as displayed. Because this is a sort on the displayed characters, the list isn't always displayed exactly as you would like, but it is much better than no sort at all.

The EVENTS UPDATE EVENTS Menu Command now sorts the list of EVENTS in order by DEVICE.

The Menu Window is now resized when the Meter Bar is displayed.

If the second attempt at opening the Comm Port fails, the user is given an option to try closing the Comm Port before retrying to open it again. This many times will remedy a situation where a program running under Windows terminates without closing the Comm Port.  

Version 2.8

If an attempt was made to Transmit an EVENT to the Controller that referenced an undefined DEVICE (and, hence, was displayed with ?????????? as the DEVICE Description), unpredictable things could occur. This bug has been corrected, and instead of ??????????, the EVENTS ListBox now displays a note that the DEVICE Description is undefined, and displays the HOUSE and MODULES referenced, i.e.: No DEVICE A-05.Corrected PRINT EVENTS Menu Command so that it no longer print garbage at the right of each EVENT.

Changed the color of the Meter Bar to black, so that it is visible on all Windows Color Setups.

The EVENTS list is now sorted by both the DEVICE and the EVENT time.

On the EVENTS UPDATE Window, a new DAY Button (Daily) has been added to set all Day Buttons at once.

A new Command Button (CANCEL) has been added to the EVENTS UPDATE Window to cancel all updates and return to the Menu Bar.

The EVENTS UPDATE Window is no longer displayed automatically after the EVENTS LOAD and EVENTS RETRIEVE EVENTS Menu Commands.

The X10UPDTE.EXE program now displays a warning dialog box if you attempt to terminate it before it has finished updating the EVENTS in the Controller.

Corrected a problem with PRINT EVENTS that was causing the MODULES not to print.
